Q: How do you issue licensing agreements for commercial and non-commercial use of LSC materials?

A:

UCLA Library Special Collections issues licensing agreements for commercial and non-commercial use ONLY for materials for which the University of California regents hold copyright (licensing fees may apply).

LSC does not grant or deny permission to publish or otherwise distribute material whose copyright it does not hold or material deemed to be in the public domain.

It is the responsibility of the user to clear any intellectual property (copyright, trademark, patent), privacy, and publicity rights in the material before publication or distribution. Upon request, LSC will provide any rights contact information it holds, subject to the privacy needs of our donors. The University of California Copyright site can explain many of the questions and issues researchers might have about copyright, such as information on Determining Copyright Status, Fair Use, and obtaining permission to use a copyrighted work.

Please contact AskLSC@library.ucla.edu for the following inquiries:

  • Questions about copyright status
  • Requesting a license for commercial or non-commercial use of LSC materials under copyright of the UC Regents
